STUBBORN RETIREMENT EAST OF SOISSONS.
ALLIES STILL HOLDING BETWEEN AISNE AND VESLE.
(Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 20—3 p.m. A French official report says:—Towards Soisosns we are fighting foot by foot as far as the borders of the town. The battle continues towards Rheims. The British and French forces, after an energetic defence at Fort Saint Thierry were bent slowly back', but are holding between the Vesle and the Aisne canal in the centre, with Tarying success.— (High Commissioner's Cable.)
