ENGINEDRIVERS' DISPUTE.

AGREEMENT REACHED. A full agreement was reached at the Conciliation Council yesterday afternoon Iα respect of the dispute Hied by the Auckland Certificated Engine-drivers Union. Aβ a result the wages of first-class certificated stationary engine-drivers have been increased from 11/ to 12/ a day; second-class certificated stationary engine-drivers from 0/0 to 11/ a (lay; and traction enginedrivers, bush locomotive-drivers, and loghaulers from 10/0 to 12/ a dny. Where any worker is required to got up steam when starting work, or to bank fires when ceasing work, and this Involves working outside the ordinary hours, he Is to be paid, In ad' ditlon to his ordinary wages, 1/ for eacll day on which he is so employed. Hours of work and overtime are the same as In the old award, with tho addition that any time worked on shift Iv excess of eight hours in any ode day is to ho paid for at the rato of time iiud α-half, except when overtime Iβ worked for the purpose of changing shifts. Holidays are In accord with the previous award, with (he addition of seven days' holiday per annum on full pay to workers engaged on shift work who nave been in their employers' service »or a period of one year, when a worker is discharged, or leaves of his own uccord before having served his employer for v full year, he is to be paid for holidays to which he Is entitled, on a pro ratu basis. The following new clause has been inserted In relation to Bhirt work:—""Where shifts are worked, the week's work shall not exceed seven shifts of eight hours each, and workers so employed shall be paid as follows:—Firstclass stationary engine-drlvern, 12/ per shift of eight hours; second-class, 11/ per shift of eight hours; traction drivers, etc., l'J/ per shift of eight hours." The court's usual clause in relation to under-rato workers was Inserted, the scope of the award remaining n» before. The award Iβ for a period of two yeare. Certain exemptions were agreed to.

On tho motion of Mr .T. Read, for the union, seconded by Mr J. Lowe for the employers, a hearty vote of thank* was accorded to the commissioner for the able and Impartial manner In which he had prosided over the council.

It was stated that the name dispute had been before conciliation Councils at Wellington, Nupler, Palmerston North, and Wangannl, but no settlement had been arrived at iv these centres. -
