Archbishop Redwood is spending a short holiday in New South Wales.

At the Supreme Court this morning, on the motion of Mr A. E. Skelton, Mr .1. F. W. Diakson, solicitor, was admitted ac a barrister by Mr Justice Hosking. Mr. E. T. Wray, agency manager in New Zealand for the Colonial Mutual Life Aeeurance Society, is visiting Auckland.

Mr. M. C. Corless, who has just died at Wanganui, aged CO years, came to New Zealand in 1857, and joined the Telegraph Department 48 years ago. He was superintendent at Wanganui in 1904, (111(1 retired on superannuation last July.

Word has been received that Engineer Sub-Lieut. Rueeell Ross, R.N.R. (eon of Captain W. Robs) has been granted promotion ac Engineer Lieutenant. Lieut. Rose lias been on active service nearly two years, part of the time in 'the North Sea and part in other Ayutere.

Mrs. H. Jane Macken (widow of the late Captain Miicken), whose death occurred at Whangarei on Tuesday, was born in Kensington West, London, and arrived in Auckland on January 10, 1880, by the ship Ben Nevis. The deceased Indy leavee five eons, four daughters, and 30 grandchildren. Captain Mackcn predeceased his wife 30 years ago, having been then only two yeare in New Zealand. Mrs. Maeken was 82 years of age.
