CAMPING AT ST. HELIER'S.

(To the Editor.) Sir. — I see by the papers that the Tamak; West Road Board intend to make bylaws to practically prohibit camping in their district, which meatus Kohimarama and St. Helier's Bay. Now, sir. this is a great injustice to the workers of Auckland and their families, who have been in the habit in the summertime of going camping. Many cannot afford to rent a house at the seaside, but can hire a tent and camp near one of the beaches during the school 1 holidays, and the worker gets to town daily." It should be encouraged, as there is pientv of land in the district, and near the seashore. There arc a large number of men who are now away at the war. and those that have returned who went camping with their families should not he debarred from that enjoyment by a bylaw. -V regulation should be made that a space of say 3(1 feet by 00 feet be between the tents of each party, and proper sanitary convenience of wood or iron. And a* they have to pay rent for the 'ground they piit their tents on. one shilling only r-hould be charged for a permit, if they are not. residents of the district. T'ne'campers spend a good bit of money in the district when there, and should i>e encouraged. There is plenty of land for all to camp there-I am. etc., CAMPER.
