ACCUMULATION OF PRODUCE.

(To the Editor.l Sir,—According to Mr. A. W. Bennett, general manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company, we have in store at the present time, meat representing 4J millions sterling; wool, 3J millions; butter, three-quarters of a million sterling; and cheese, half a million sterling; or for these four items of produce a total of Oi millions sterling. With the new season just commencing for butter, cheese, and other produce, many farmers, including myself, are naturally wondering if we are going to get this accumulation of produce away to make room for the new produce; or if any preparations are being made for storage. Perhaps tlie authorities do not want to make public what steps they are taking in this matter, and if so 1 am quite content to let it rest at that. But it means the ruination of hundreds of farmers if they are permitted to keep on dairying, for'instance, and nothing is being done in the matter, and they, in that case, would feel that they would be far better employed at the front than wasting time growing produce that is not wanted.—l am, etc.. .i. \v. McLaren, sen., Kainui Estate.
