MILITARY MATCH. • The military match played yesterday at Eden Park between A Company. Twenty- . eighth Reinforcements, and a Returned ■ Soldiers' team resulted in the A Company t representatives suffering their first defeat. , The .R..S. .team was fortified by several of the Maori team from Narrow Neck, while * A Company played a weaker side than they - had on Saturday, and were a man short for (he greater i>art of the first quarter. The Returned Soldiers had this stronger forward side, und very quickly assumed the offensive. Some fast following and tackling work by Gaspartch putting them on A I Company's line. Here, from ruck play, the 8 ball was dribbled over the line, luid Dalziel . scored for the Returned Soldiers. The kick at goal failed. The Returned Soldiers con- " tinned to hold the advantage, and In the i second quarter Gasparleh kicked a fine pen>. t ulty goal, making the score six to nil. Play ' was ragged anil of the Individual order, but despite a heavy ground It was fast. Although the A Company representatives made desperate sallies they were unable to overcome the superiority In the forwards of the H.S. players.-and-'When they did get through they found the fielding and saving of Pol and others of the local backs too reliable for them, the result being that no further score wtt* registered, and the Returned Soldiers were winners by G points to nil. Mr. A. Hintz was referee.
