ri'DLIC WORKS. A meeting of the City Council was held last evening. There were present: The Mayor (Mr J. H. Uuuson), Miss E. Melville, Messrs A. .1. Entricau, M. Casey, ti. Knight, H. D. 'Heather, J. F. Hosting, J. 'Burton, W. J. Iloldsworth, F. \v. ißrlnsdeu, S. M. Moore-Jones. J. Dempsey, Ernest H. Davis, D. J. Nerhen.v, .1. Trevlthick, J. H. J'aterson, J. A. Warnock, E. j. Carr, H. N. Ungual!, and A. Hall Skclfon.

Tbe Mt. Hoswill lioad Board wrote asking if the Council would continue the arrangement, the Hoard had wlih the Epsom Itoad Board to contribute half the coe t of the maintenance of Belwyn Road and also part of Church Street. The rity Engineer recommended that some definite arrangement be arrived at whereby each body pay half the cost of the upkeep of boundary roads. The question was referred to the Works Committee.

The Auckland and Suburban Drainage Hoard wrote stating that the proportion assessed to the City for lis contribution to the general fund was £—,381 5/0.

The Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard notified the Couuell that its contribution for the year ending .March 111 was £11,111-1 5/C. Ou the recommendation of the Mayor the mutt or was referred to the Finance and Legal Committee.

A letter was received from th e Epsom Nursing .Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade asking If a lease could be obtained of the building recently occupied by the Epsom Fire I'.rignde. to be used mainly for instructional purposes, aud also asking if an optional purchasing clause could be inserted, and at what priec the Council would be prepared to sell. The application was reforrcd to the Uesorves Committee.

A letter was received from the Department of Lands and Survey asking the Council to desist from tho operations now being conducted on the volcanic hills adjacent to Auckland, coutrary to the provisions of section 5 of Uie Reserves nnd Other Lands Disposal and PuMic Bodies Empowering Act, imr,. The matte- -was referred to the Reserves Committee.

A communication was received from the Minister of Justice regarding a new lease of the Mt. Eden quarry area, stating that he was advised that there was no power enabling the Government to lea so any reserve or part of a reserve in the manner proposed, anil that the question of obtaining the necessary legislative authority during the coming session was now under discussion. The com—indention was referred to the Works Committee.

The Public Services Committee reported that It had no recommendation to make in reference to the proposal to merge the -Manukau Water Supply Board into the City Council.—Adopted.

The Reserves Committee recommended that .Myers .Park be lighted, at an estimated animal cost of £13, subject to the Council providing £55 for temporary overhead wiring.—Adopted.

A recommendation from the Reserves Committee, In reply to a request from the 'Auckland Football Association that provision bo made for lighting the .Iressing rooms in the Victoria lark pavilion, was adopted
