The movement to establish a Municipal Brass Band at Birkenhead is meeting with good support, and a substantial amount was raised ln»t night towards the purchase of Instruments at a concert In tbe Birkenhead Foresters' Hall, which was packed with an appreciative audience, the items being well received and encores were frequent. The programme consisted of selections by the Third Aucklnnd infantry Regimental Band, under Bandmaster Lieutenant J. T. Lighton; sougs by Madam Chambers, Mrs. H. Ilayw-ard, Messrs. Ernest Drake and Thos. McDowell; duets by Madam Chambers and Mrs. H. Hay ward; Swiss zither solos by Mr. Werner Uugeinuth; humorous songs and monologues by Mr. Rud. Peterson; recitations by Miss Tbelnia MePhall; fancy dances by Miss Doreen O'Sullivau; comet solos by Mr. W. Cranston. Miss Clarice Wood officiated as accompanist.
