A FALSE RUMOUR.
WELLINGTON". Friday. ' A fine of £1 was imposed upon Ernest Tanner at the Magistrate's Court to-day for circulating a false rumour that a riot had occurred at Featherston military camp, and that 40 casualties had resulted, and also that suicides were fr_o,uent in camp. The magistrate said tbat the statement might have been made without the intention of creating alarm, but it was a breach of the War Regulations, ln deciding the penalty, he took into consideration tho fact that, owing to ;i witness having been brought from Invereargill, the costs amounted to £9 17/--
