Mr. and Mrs. L. Rutherford, of North; Canterbury, are at present st-iying at, Cargen. Miss Winifred A. Baylis. ofKawaknwa left Inst week for Sydney en route to Bangalore. India. Three ladies. Miss Swinfen F.ady. Miss' J. W. Harvey, and Miss Mabel C. Scott, missionaries on furlough from India, ar-. rived in New Zealand to spend a holiday. It. ivn- their intention to spend their furlough in England, but they were prohibited from doing so by the regulations against women travelling in the war 7one. At present they are visiting Dunedin. News has been received of the engagement of Miss Erica Fell, eldest daughter of 1 >r. and Mrs. Fell, of Maheno Bay. Wellington, to Captain Frank Wilson. X.Z.E.1".. of Wellington. Miss Feli left at the end of last year to join her pirenrs in England, where Dr. Fell is in ("-harge of n military hospital. The eng-ng-ement has been announced in England of Captain J. Richmond, N.Z.E.F.. of Wellington, to Miss Betty Blake, of England. ' Miss Blake will be well remembered iv Wellington, having spent ,-ome time here a few yeans ago on a visit to her aunt. Miss Mary Richmond, of Hobson Street, who is now in England. In attending the big National Service meeting of women. Her Majesty Queen Mary departed from her hitherto unbroken rule against attending public meetings, a fact which in itself spoke volumes for the careful consideration which the new organisation is receiving from her. Such i? fame. In a recent issue of the "Queen.** a new hat is advertised as "Megan." evidently named after the little daughter of the Prime Minister of England. Mrs. D. Mitchell, of Devonport. and her sister. Miss Ivy Wynyard. are at present spending a holiday in Seo-Jand. Recent letters from the travellers state that they are both well and charmed with the places they are visiting. Mrs. Gunson. president of the Auckiland Women's Patriotic League, accompanied by Miss Spedding. addressed a meeting of the Point Chevalier branch on Thursday afternoon. A party consisting of Mr and Mrs J. R. Murphy. Miss Bennett. Mr and Mre Rowley Murphy and Miss Murphy, of Tokomaru Bay. are at present visiting Auckland for the races and staying at the Grand. Amongst the guests at the Grand this week wore Mr and Mrs Tonks. Hawera ; Mr and Mrs King Reed, Cape Runaway; Mr and Mrs Russoll. Hastings; Mr and Mrs Rutledge. Gisborne; Mr. and Mrs Hewitt and Mr Booth, of Dannevirke. Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong, of Dannevirke. have been spending a week in Auckland.
