Mr. T. Harle Giles, Conciliation Commissioner, returned from Gisbome to-day. " Mr. Norman .T. McKay, of "Tbe Rraigh," Waipu, died on Tuesday, after two years' illness. Mr. .1. A. Myers, was presented by bis fellow secretaries on tlie Ministerial staff with a Wedgwood dinner service on the occasion of his marriage. Mr. J. C. Prudhoe (late district manager at Christchurch of tho Government Life Insurance Department), having retired after 40 years' service, was presented by the staff with an oak dining table and suite to match. Constable W. 11. Bradley, of the District Police Office, Auckland, who has been transferred to take charge of the Waipiro Ray station, was furewelled last night by his Auckland comrades. Detec-tive-Sergeant Hollis, on behalf of Constable Bradley's friends, presented him with a solid leather suit-case, inscribed to commemorate the occasion, and with a wristlet watch for Mrs. Rradley. Constable Rradley expects to leave Auckland next week. His predecessor, Constable Snow, has been transferred to Warkworth. A very pleasing function took place last evening in the manager's room of the Victoria Insurance Co. Mr. G. Nevill, who for the past 15 years has occupied the poaition of chief clerk of the company, was presented by his late colleagues with a very handsome writing cabinet in polished rimu. Tlie gift was made by the manager, Mr. F. Evans, on behalf of the staff, and was coupled with words of appreciation and good wishes. Mr. Nevill, who has been appointed manager of the British Traders' Insurance Co., suitably responded, expressing his regret at parting with old friends with whom he had been so long associated.
