THE IRISH QYESTION.
PATRIOTIC UNIONISTS. LONDON, May 20. A letter has been addressed to Mr. Lloyd George by Viscount Middle.ton on behalf of the Unionists of South-west Ireland. He insisted that the Sinn Fein movement had gained immensely in strcqgth since the rebellion, and that its operations were actively seditious and pro-German. He declared its aim is an Irish Republic, and that any division of Ireland would enormously increase the forces of disloyalty. Southern Unionists were willing to consider the possibility of a convention. They had already announced their readiness to enter a conference on the future government of the Empire after the war, hoping that the Irish question may be settled on broad Imperial lines.
