AUCKLAND RUGBY LEAGUE.
A committee meeting of the Auckland Uughy League was held at _i, Sbortlaud Street, on Wedueadnv, loth May. Present: Messrs H. Beus.iu, \\. Ross, L. Bull N. D. Culiinu, A. W. Tattou, C. Baker. T. Fielding, It. Pollock, K. McDonald, and B. Spinley. An aplplcation for a re-hearing of the charge against A. Campney was deferred until the next meeting, when all evidence on the case will he taken. A deputation from the Referees' Association waited un the League and explained the method vi selecting the referees suitable to the matches. Mr Ferguson was of the opinion that the members of the League did not know the personnel of the Referees' Association, and us not one complaint was received in any particular instance of referees appointed being incapable of conducting matches, he thought that the referees, as in the past, were the best judges as to who is the best man to take charge of the whistle. Mr Murray expressed the view that the further the referees were kept away from the clubs the better for the game. Mr Benson Enid that the limited number of referees available made It doubly bard to make suitable appointments, aud as the system worked smoothly, he failed to see why any change should be made. Mr Pollock said that he did not arsl bring his motion before the League with any antagonism towards the Referees' Association, but for the purpose of tinding a better way of making the appointment Mr Tatton expressed the view that the referees still had the power of selecting three referees for seuior matches, and that all the League wanted was the hnal apointment. Mr Benson then moved, and Mr Fielding seconded, "That the minutes re appointment of of referees be deleted." Mr Pollock moved un amendment, "That the operation of the minutes stand adjourned until after the war." Seconded by Mr Tatton. Tbe amen.liuent was carried on a show of hands.
