Mt H. A. Gowdie, Government Chief Forester for the North Island, is stayin* at the Central Hotel. ■ * Mr. G. C. B. Jordan, Under-Secretary for Justice, arrived fronrf" Wellington by the express yesterday afternoon, and took rooms at the Royal Hotel. Capt.-J. Hilton Brown (Canadian recruiting officer) was a passenger to Wellington by the Main Trunk express last nightDr. Violet Field, daughter of Mr. T. A. H- Field,-M.P., has, according to the Nelson "Evening Mail," been recently appointed Professor of Pathology at the Lady Hardinge Memorial College, Delhi. Jill seven professors at this College are women. Mr. William Tarnell, sen., whose death at the-advanced age of 90 years is chronicled by tbe "Pelorua Guardian," was born in Birmingham and went to the Melbourne diggings in 1852. Two years later he landed in Nelson, and in 1858 removed to Havelock. For several years he was a member of the Pelorus Road Board, and of the local school committee.
