LONDON, October 10.
A German communique states: "There has been artillery- and patrol activity south of Ypres. * The Somme battle has reached a tremendous stage. The enemy, if possible, is increasing his efforts. We have inflicted proportionately greater defeats, and have not lost the smallest section of trench. The British and French assaulted regardless of losses between Gueudecourt and Bouchavesnes, but were Tepulsed everr time". We destroyed a considerable length of trenches in the Argonne by mines. During September we lost 20 aeroplanes, and the British and French lost 129. -'
'The enemy is retreating on the whole lin* in Eastern Transylvania. We recaptured Foergzvar and Toerzburg. German troops and Austro-Hiinpariaii monitors hold possession of Danube Island, near Orsova. ■ ,
"We captured six guns east of the Monaatfr-Florina railway. The enemy obtained a foothold on the left bank of the Tserna River."
