INTERMITTENT SHELLING ON BRITISH FRONT.
GERMAN INFANTRY CAUGHT IN THE OPEN, 3AID ON TRENCHES AT ST. ELOI REPELLED* (Received 9.25 a.m.) LONDON, October 5. Sir Douglas Haig reports intermittent night shelling southward of the Ancre. Our artillery caused many casualties to the German infantry moving north of Sehwaben Redoubt. The Germans unsuccessfully attempted to enter the trenches eastward ot Saint Eloi.
