BRITISH SUCCESSES IN THE BALKANS.
POSITIONS EAST OF THE STRUMA CONSOLIDATED. SCOTTISH AND IRISH BATTALIONS DISTINGUISH THEMSELVES ? \ (Received 9.25 a.m.) LONDON, October 5. The "War Office, reporting on the Salonika front, states that the fighting at Jenakoi, on the east bank of the Struma, ended on Wednesday ia our complete success. We occupied the whole village both north and south of the Seres road, spent the remainder of Wednesday consolidating our new positions from Orliak Bridge along the Seres road to Jenakoi and thence back to the river through the Karakzakoi villages. The Lowland Scottish and Irish Battalions especially distinguished themselves in the recent fighting, and the enemy suffered heavily. A French communique says:—"The Balkan battle continues favourable along the whole front. The Allied advance guards have begun to cross the Cerna, in the region of Dobroveni and Brod, and are progressing despite the hail of shells on the slopes on Mont Sbaba reaching Bufpopli."
