RAID OSN THE TRENCHES AT LOOS. (Received 9.55 a.m.). LONDON, October 3. General Sir Douglas Haig reports:—"The night was quiet southward of the Ancre. "We successfully raided the German trenches southward of Loos." A French communique says:—"Violent artillery duels are in progress in the region of Rancourt. Our fire immediately drove back the Germans, who advanced from their trenches in the St. Pierre Vaast Wood."
