FREVEJfTIOH BETTER THAN .. ;"1 ~■..'...._• CURE. _ ~. EDUCATION BOARD OX THE ALERT. In view of the approach of summer months, Mrs. F. E.Baume moved, at today's meeting of the Education Board, that the Health Department be asked to co-operate in taking steps to prevent a recurrence of the mysterious disease of infantile paralysis, which spread so rapidly last year, and has also been obtaining a great hold in other countries. The mover said that the doctors of the Board of Health seemed to be at variance a3 to the significance of the disease, and' there seemed to be no doubt that its origin and causes were a mystery. Between 20 and 30 mothers. had -waited upon her, Mrs.* Baume eaid, to. ask that something should be done in the direction of fumigating the schools, etc. The speaker thought that the purchase of a vacuum cleaner—to cleanse those portions of the schools which' were not covered by contract, would be a good investment, and that the City Council -might aleo be asked to assist in talcing precautions against a recurrence of the disease.

Mr. A. Burns seconded the motion, and suggested that the Christmas holidays would provide an excellent opportunity for fumigating the schools. Ho also hoped that some arrangement could be made for shorter hours during the hot ■weather, in Order" to preserve the "vitality of'the children. . ' The motion was carried, and on the further, motion of Mr. Murray it wu resolved to.msk the. architect-to report on the cost oi a vacuum cleaner*
