THE NEWMARKET SCHOOL 7BOBX.EIC. BOARiys EXPLANATION ACCEPTED. - An'adjustment hae- been-made of the' difference which arose 'between the Edu«ition '.Department .and the : Auckland Board in connection "with the steps taken -to relieve the excessive overcrowding at the Newmarket School. It will be remembered that after considering various alternatives the Board found that the accommodation required could be .providedvat' a" 'comparatively' small cost 'by. the erection "of two purely temporary partitions in the cookery and woodwork- rooms at -the- .Newmarket' Manual Training Centre, thus providing two claas rooms for public school purposes, and leaving sufficient accommodation for the cooking and woodwork pupils. ..The Department protested'that such action'should nbtT>e taken';without first consulting the Minister. A letter was received at to-day's meet ing of the Board from the director of Education (Dr.' Anderson), :aa follows: "]With_ reference to /your memorandum, I f .have to ,say that the .Department is prepared to believe that the action taken" by the Board is, , in view of the explanation now given, the. best that circumetanccs permitted.. It must,- however, enter a protest that- a building erected for a particular purpose by means of a special grant should' be to any. extent ■diverted from this purpose without the ' permission of the Department having been previously obtained." .. - :
