SOLDIERS RETURN HOME.

WELCOME TO AUCKLAND. FURTHER BATCH EXPECTED. j TwentyVeight returned soldiers who arrived at a Southern port by the steamer Ulimaroa a few days a<?o reached Auckland by the Main Trunk express this morning. After disembarking the men were briefly welcomed by the Mayor (Mr. J. H. Gunson), who addressed them in a few words. They were then conveyed by motor-cars, provided by the Motor Service Corps, under Major C. Rhodes, to their destinations. Included in the draft are ten Nine Islanders, who have been temporarily accommodated at the Epßom Convalescent Home until arrangements have been completed for their retain to the Islands. There were no cot cases, but one man was admitted to the Auckland. Hospital. Twelve others have retarned to their homes in the city, and the country men, five in number, will proceed to their destinations in due coarse. Four of the men left the train at Fr_nkton Junction, and proceeded to their homes in the southern groups of the district. A further batch of 55 men is expected to arrive at Auckland within a few days by the steamer Rotorua. A public reception will be tendered the returned soldiers in the No. 18 shed on the Queen's wharf, and the men who arrived to-day will also be invited to attend. Refreshments will be provided by the members of the Women's Patriotic League.
