Smallbone, of Danncvirke, has been transferred to Dunedin, as assistant postmaster. The Rev. J. Dawßon Madill, of Papakura, has received a call to the Presbyterian Church at Stratford. Mr. Charles Hugh Cranby died on Sunday at Napier, where he had resided for over forty years, being identified with the shipping interests. Bishop Brodie, of Christchurch, has found it necessary to postpone his visit to Auckland diocese until the end of next month. The Rev. J. R. Shore, of Hawera, has received a unanimous call to • St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Hamilton. Superintendent Wildish, of Gisborne Fire Brigade, has resigned after completing 'thirty years' continuous 'service. Mr. J. L. Elmore, of Kansas City, is at

present in Christchurch. From there he goes to inspect rock paintings near Timaru and Oamaru in connection with-his investigations into the art of the Maori. A large representative meeting of the congregation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church last night, to discuss the vacancy left by the Rev. Gow's resignation, unanimously decided to extend a call to the Rev. J. R. Shore, of Hawera. At last night's meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, reference was made to the loss sustained by the city in the death of thte late Mr. J. J. Craig. A vote of condolence was passed, expressing sympathy with, the bereaved relatives. Mrs. C. E. Rawson, mother of Mr. E. Rawson, S.M., of Hamilton, and relict of the late District Judge Rawson, has died at New Plymouth. When a girl of 12 she arrived in New Zealand as far ■back as 1852. Hamilton's faithful service as head clerk •for the past seven and a half years, during which time he had pToved a thoroughly reliable man. Mr. Ambury'wishcd Mr. Hamilton Godspeed, and assured •him his position with the company again after he had returned from serving his country. Mr. Hamilton, iv replying, expressed the wish that he might make as many friends during -bis military career as toe had done at Southdown.
