MR J. E. O'LEARY. , M The death of the. late Mr. Jimes Edward O'Leary, who passed away et.tt* Hospital, on Thursday last, removes «• other old colonist from our-midst. 'Ifc O'Leary was bom in Auckland 63 J*»* ago, and was a well known and respwtt* resident of St. Heller's Bay far j «"WJ years. He comes of a very old family« pioneers. His father and mother iwfW at Kororareka (Russell)' in.lMO,»« during those perilous times they *'* driven from their homes by the Mw"' during the Maori war. Hie parent&'t<K« refuge on the H.M.s. Calliope, and * ,r, brought to Auckland in 1845, whete.tt* dependents of the family have rem»ißW ever since. His father bought lani,'*. the first land sale in Auckland, »"» owned large properties in Queen Str«» when that land was then on the slop**. of a gully. Mr. O'Leary remembered tM great fire of Auckland, when the HoW Osprey took fire and Auckland«» left a heap of ruins. He atao-;"* membered the mystery of the great W* bourne family. Mr. O'Leary was "■' active service in Auckland during Maori v.ar. He i≤ eurvived by hi* *«■? sister, Mrs. M. J. Gregory, of St«iu»7 Bay, who is the first white -woman of W.
