,%sss* . . ... asSfc To forward the interest of the relief for stricken Serbians, the Mayor's Serbian Relief Fund Committee have decided to hold "Serbian Day" on August i, 1916, this being the anniversary of the day on which the British Empire entered the war to protect the smaller nations against German aggression and expansion, both" east and west, and tbe committee are appealing again to tbe public and various societies of Auckland, also the country patriotic committees, to alleviate as much as possible the sufferings which now prevail, by helping on this day, The Mayor of Auckland recently received a cable message, from the Serbian Minister in London, acknowledging re-ceiptr-of money cabled to England from the above fund. The messago conveys the warmest thanks to the. people of the Auckland pi-ovince for their liberality, and adds that the amount has been allocated to the fund for the relief of the sufferings of the Serbian refugees. The Minister also states that he would be most thankful to the donors if they would continue to support the Serbian Fund. In this connection, the Mayor asks I all citizens and residents in the Auckland province to extend to the fund their hearty and practical support. Hie Worship points out that so far, relatively speaking, very little has been done in New Zealand for the Serbian refugees. "1 hope," he adds, "that the response from Auckland will be continued to an extent that will prove worthy of tha obligations which rest upon us at this time; in view of our nation's close association with this, stricken people." On Saturday evening, August sth, fol lowing "Serbian Day," a grand concert, organised by a well-known Auckland organist, Mr. Harold Gregeoo, will be given in the Town Hall.
