FINANCE BILL AMENDED.

A meeting of the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present: Messrs. E. Anderson (president , L- J, Bagnall, H. W. Hudson, L. A. Longuet, E. C. Browne, J. M. Clark, and J. H. Upton. In reply to a communication from tne Chamber of Commerce, the Comptroller of Customs wrote advising that lists of prohibited firms are now available on application to the Collector of Customs. The secretary stated that a list was nowavailable for inspection at the Chamber s office. _ , A letter was received from Mr. Carl Seegner, resigning his position as a member of the Chamber. A letter was received from the Fleet Committee'in London soliciting subscriptions towards the purchase of newspapers for men of the Grand Fleet. The letter 'was received.

A resolution was carried in -which it was decided to place on record the regret of the Chamber at the death of Mr. J. J. Craig, and to extend the sympathy of the Chamber to the wife of deceased and other relatives.

The Chairman pointed out that the excess profits clause as modified in the Finance Bill embodied to a very large extent the amendments suggested by the Auckland Chamber, and sent forward by the Associated Chambers. Satisfaction was expressed at the fact that the suggestions of the Chamber had led to the improvement of the measure.
