GOVERNMENT CHEESE PURCHASES.
A DEADLOCK THREATENED. #y Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELINGTOX, Friday. Keen interest was taken by members in a deputation of thirty dairy factory representatives to the Premier to-day. The spokesman was Mr. Morton, chairman of the National Dairy Association. The Premier had been confined to his residence since Friday, and this "was his first public business since then. He immediately Teturned. home. His appearance under the circumstances indicates the importance of the deputation. The speakers represented that when the Government commandeered one-third of last season's cheese output at 7 Id. per pound, the remaining output secured an average price of 9id. The deputation submitted tliat it would be unfair to take the wholo output at last season's official price:
The Premier's reply does not give much assurance, but the matter rests finally with the Imperial authorities, th» suggestion being raised that insistence no the higher figure will result in the withdrawal of the Imperial offer, and consequent difficulty in shipping produce Home. However, the position is a long way. from finality, last year's arrangement not having been made til! October.
