' WELIdNGTON, Thursday. j PAPER PULP. j A suggestion was made by Mr. Ell to- ' day 'that a pulping machine be employed ' to pulp under-scrub in New Zealand " bushes, in view of the high price' of '} paper and the present waste of this '< wood. ' The Hon.- Mac Donald replied that the 1 Agricultural Department had obtained - 1 information about paper pulp, and 1 came to the conclusion that the cost of 1 plant and labour would make the in- 1 Zealand. i SOLDIERS ON LEAVE. ! A plea for some adequate system of j housing soldiers passing through Wellington on leave was made by Dr. Thacker, who stated that's number of South Island soldiers who returned from ' leave on-Sunday found the Wellington - hotels overcrowded. - - They failed 'to get food or housing until they -returned to Trentham. Same had to sleep in hospital, and others in the police station and railway carriages. Wellington ' ladies were keen to do something for the men, but they had been officially refused assistance. The Hon. James Allen stated that the \ Soldiers' Club was opened early on Sundays for men returning from the south. The greatest difficulty experienced was over men getting week-end leave from Trentham and Featherston. Welb'ng- ; ton was receiving such benefits from soldiers being given leave that it was ', up to Wellington to make- provision for ! them.
