Same had to sleep in hospital, and others in the police station and railway carriages. Wellington ' ladies were keen to do something for the men, but they had been officially refused assistance. The Hon. James Allen stated that the \ Soldiers' Club was opened early on Sundays for men returning from the south. The greatest difficulty experienced was over men getting week-end leave from Trentham and Featherston.
