NO NEW ATTACKS ATTEMPTED

YON TIRPITZ'S RESIGNATION A BOMBSHELL
The Germans are digging themselves in to the northward of Verdun, and have attempted no new offensive, though a bombardment of varying intensity continues.
The Germans are reported to be elaborating the defences of Chevgili, on the Serbo-Greek border, evidently anticipating an allied attack.
The Russian attack on the fortress of Trebizond is being pressed onward, and troops are being landed to the eastward of the port. / The resignation of Yon Tirpitz from the supreme control of the German Navy came as a thunderbolt to the people.
Overwork and worry through the failure of his plans are set down as the causes of his retirement. Admiral Yon Capelle succeeds him.
It is suggested that Brazil is likely to follow Portugal's lead in seizing German shipping interned in her ports. She has a couple of splendid Dreadnoughts which will come in useful if Germany sends along a declaration of war.
