(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) , HAMILTON, this day. ( Alfred Smyth, the young man who as- i saultcd and robbed an old man named \ Alexander .McKenzie in the Pirougia ( ik'to) last Thursday night, pleaded j guilty to-day, and was committed for E sentence. { Application for discharge in bank- *\ ruptey was applied for by William £ Moreland, builder, of Hamilton, before \ Sir. Justice Cooper. The Assignee said ] the creditors were extremely dissatisfied l with the bankruptcy, whioh Moreland" [ attributed to losing a roll of notes of the value of £120, while bankrupt had perty. His Honor said <he must assume bankrupt lost the money. The creditors apparently were not objecting to the application, and there was no legal provision ■α-hy it should not be . granted. He accordingly aesented to the discharge, which was granted. John Gifford Keatell, accountant, of Auckland, applied to adjudge Herbert William Cnffe, machinery agent, of Hamilton, bankrupt, on the ground that he was committing an act of bankruptcy. The application was withdrawn on the parties agreeing to take the matter to arbitration.
