INTENSE BOMBARDMENT NORTH OF VERDUN.

FRENCH 'PLANES DROP BOMBS ON ENEMY POSITIONS. ■«% The High Commissioner cables under date of London, March 14:— North of Verdun during Monday the bombardment was more intense at ilorthomme and Bois dcs Bourrus. There was also artillery activity in the Woevre district, south-east of Verdun. There were no infantry actions. A squadron of six aeroplanes dropped 130 shells on Bireultes, north of Verdun. In air fights, three German aeroplanes were brought down. Tbe advantage in numerous air encounters is indisputably with the French. A German wireless message says that German airmen successfully attacked the French railway station and position on the Clermont-Verdun line, and destroyed three enemy aeroplanes in the Champagne district and one in the Sleuse district.
