PROPOSED ONEHUNGA CEMETERY.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—Past experience has 6ho\vn the evils of enclosing cemeteries in populated areas; yet the Onehunga Borough Council is about to open a new cemetery in a populated district, within a mile and a-half of Onehunga post office, on the Mt. Roskill foreshore. The new site, sloping steeply down to Taylor's Bay, has a grade comparable to Constitution Hill, hence the ground, when disturbed by grave-diggdng, is certain to slip. As the place is already flanked by houses I consider that the District Health Officer should inspect and report on the 6ite. Moreover Taylor's Bay is the most beautiful and most accessible from Auckland of the Manukau bays, and is destined to be a favourite marine suburb in the near future. Alongside is Waikowhai Park, rendered available to the public of Auckland, and especially of Onehunga, by the generosity of the Mt. Roskill ratepayers. And now the Onehunga Borough Council, against the wishes of the Mt. Roskill residents, has decided to disfigure and darken this bay. Surely others will assist Mt. RoskiU in preserving for Auckland this beauty spot—l am, etc., WAIKOWBAI. *
