THAITKS TO BANKERS.
HOW COMPULSION WOtTLD BE RECEIVES.
(Received 1.5 p.m.) LOKDON*. February 29. The Hon. Andrew Fisher (High Commissioner for Australia) was entertained lin the city to-day at luncheon, at which 'he met the managers of the Australian banks and other financial people. ilr Fisher, referring to compulsory training in Australia, said it had not been received unanimously, many thinking that it was a vile attempt to interfere with their liberty; but men of foresight and grit had carried it through. He said he would not forget the financial assistance that the Commonwealth i had received from the private banks in Australia. The bankera had furnished specie, and the Government, by the iasue of paper money, had raised £30,000,000. He did not beiieve anybody in Australia was a penny worse off, and the country's credit had not been disturbed.
