MIXED BATHING.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The display of the physical proportions of some of the men and women that can be seen disporting themselves in the sea, or lying together on tho beach at Takapiina is startling in its almost primitive state of nudity. The drapery used is certainly scant —so scant that I would ask any rational observer who has inspected some of the covering used whether many of thoso barefaced bathers would not be more honestly attired if their skin was exposed in its 'Jiaturul condition, or if it was slightly tattooed with some fancy coloured pigments? We, of course, are only semi-civilised, but surely there is a suflicient sense of decency left to prevent us from descending to the state of nature as seen in Darkest Africa.—l am, etc., civrs.
