FIGHTERS AND PRODUCERS

COMPULSION FOR BOTH. SUGGESTED BY RAILWAYMAN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TATJMARUNUI, this day. Resolutions were passed at a meeting of the locaJ branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants on Sunday as follows:—"This branch is of opinion that the Government has not dealt seriously with the cost of living, allowing exploiters unrestricted opportunity to amass wealth, whilst the pick of the manhood of the Dominion is lighting for King and countrj', sacrificing their lives, and leaving their families to the mercy of exploiters. It is to the everlasting disgrace of the present Government that such a state of affairs should exist. We consider maximum prices should be fixed for the necessiries of life; that on a producer irefusiag to produce, his business he taken, and run as a Government concern. We fail to understand why production should not be compulsory, the same as military service. This meeting strongly supports compulsory service, and insists on compulsory production on a reasonable margin of profit. Further, we would treat a man refusing to produce the same as ono who refuses to fight."
