TRAINING AT MOTUTAPU.

THIRD REGIMENT IN CAMP. UNDER DELIGHTFUL CONDITION'S. The Third (Auckland) Regiment, now undergoing its annual period of eight days' training under canvas, without which no one liable for territorial service can be regarded as ''efficient" for the year, is in camp under ideal conditions at Motutapu. Yesterday the regiment was "at home." and about a thousand visitors, who travelled across the bay by the ferry "steamer Peregrine in the afternoon, were entertained at the camp. The band of the regiment contributed a musical programme. The camp is purely regimental, under the control of the officers of tne "Third." Lieutenant-Colonel A. Bartlett is in command, with Captain R. C. Hocking. N.Z.S.C., aa his adjutant. Majors R. G. Cox and M. N. Atkinson are also in camp. Major G. Craig. N.Z.MC, who served in the Gallipoli campaign as surgeon to the Auckland Battalion of the N.Z. Infantry Brigade, is Medical Officer for the camp. The camp will be continued until 4th March. A syllabus of thorough training has been laid down and will be rigidly carried out. The men, nevertheless, appreciate the fact that military discipline in such delightful surroundings is soldiering de luxe. The facilities for bathing could hardly be surpassed, and full advantage is being taken of the natural advantages ,of the spot for healthful outdoor exercise. The regiment has paraded between 700 and 800 strong, exemptions for about seventy having been obtained for "casual" camp training at a season more convenient to employers concerned.
