OUR DEBT TO OUR SOLDIERS
(To Ibe Editor.) Sir, —I notice that one of pur wounded soldiers ie said to have slept in the Domain sooner than ask for charity from the Patriotic Committee. I believe many others feel like this xnan about accepting help, and I think it ie therefore more than ever necessary that wo should make it plain to those who have done -«o much for Uβ that we feel it a privilege to do what we can for them, and they are depriving Uβ of that privilege if they do not let Uβ help as far as wo can. For thk reason it deems essential that all our gifts should be entirely freewill offerings, and that we. ehould minrmioe as far a/i possible the actual money side of anything we give, and rather lay stress on the fs.ct that by letting us help them thny are really doing us a kindm-es. becauee they are >elpui£ ue to repay the great debt we owe them, ft doee neem so unworthy arid Ro ungrateful and so lacking in Oner instinct to offer these brave soldiers half-crowns that we have raked together in raffle* because we were too mean to give unless* we had a chance of winning something in return.—l am, etc., ,
W. G. MONCKTON.
