ARBOR DAY.

Arbor Day was celebrated at the Onchunga Public School by the children anrt teachers planting 100 native trees and shrubs donated by Mr. A. MeColl. of Onehunjra. The pupils were .nuwt enthusiastic over the ceremony. After the completion of the planting, the headmaster. Mr. Melntosh. addressed the pupils, telling them that two pohutukawa tree?, natives of New Zealnnd. were planted in honour of our contingents at the front, and two Australian gum-trees in honour of the Australians. Arbor Day was enthusiastically celebrated at Papatoetoe School. In the morning the teachers and scholars planted a large number of phriibe, and in other ways beautified tho school grounds. In the afternoon tlie parent* and friends attended in large numbers at the school, when a pnriri tree was planted by the senior wholar. "Nla-ter James Oil lard, to commemorate the gallant feat of arm? performed by the NVw Zcslanders and Australians in Clallipoli. The Kational Anthem was then sung by all present, and the national anthems of the allied nations were sung by the scholars. Addrewes were civen by the headmaster (.Mr 11. P. Andrew) and by Mr. Hunter, a. member of the school committee. For the celebration of Arbor Day the pupils of Titirangi School proceeded to Mount Atkinson, in Titirangi Park. About 80 trees were supplied by the City Council, and Mr J. TVshop forwarded some fine voting puriris. Mr McCflVie. caretaker of the park, pare practical instruction in (ree-plantins. and each child had an opportunity of planting a tree. John Smith the Army. Dors Bishop the Triple Entente, while little James Atkinson honoured the donnr nf the Park, his grandfather, Mr J. Atkinson. Later Eu<*ene de Bra-bandcrc honoured his countrymen by settins a pnriri to the memory of the brave Belgians. Mr Murphy, the teacher, spoke, as each tree was set. on the purpose for which it was planted, and of the parties it honoured.
