Mr; C. J. Tunks loft for Wellington by the express. Captain H. Hilton fhootieman. of Tuaknu, has received n medical appointment with the Expeditionary Force. Mr. W. Terry, of Masterton. was elected president of the Now Zealand Council of Agriculture. Mr. E. \V. Rowlings, of Mount Eden, left for Wellington yesterday to meet his son, Lieut. E. T. Rowlings, who was on board the Willoehra. Mr. r>. M. McMillan. District Road Engineer at Napier, having been transferred to Gisborne, was presented by the local staff of the Public Works Department wit.h an elaborate set of drawing instruments. Mr. H. Sten Hurle. who in November, 1013, reMiinerl from the Labour Depart ment, Wellington, and went to Chili. left that country for England on the outbreak of war. He has been given a second lieutenant's commission in t.he Fifth Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment. Mr. E. Hall, for many years secretary to tho -■Xiiolvlnlid -Aprirultuml nn<l I*;i*■ toral Association, was presented at the committee of the Council o f Agriculture with a silver tea and coffee service in recognition of services rendered a* secretary. Several members spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr. Hall. Sir Walter Buchanan said Mr. Hall deserved to be remembered, if only for his work in respect to telephone* in country districts. Mrs. H. Tt. Monro, wife of the minister of St. Luke's Church. Eemiiera, has been president of tho Auckland branch of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary I'nion" for many years. At the mooting of that body yesterday afternoon, Mrs. W. McLean, on behalf of tho members of the Association, prevented Mrs. Monro with a set of furs and made »peeial reference to the good work done by that lady during her lengthy residence in Auckland.
