GOVERNMENT AND FOOD PRICES.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I and my friends have been patiently waiting to hear some decided protest at the alarming attitude of the Government in reference to the wheat and bread question. Having-closely followed Mr. Massey's remarks bearing on this matter, 1 feel compelled to Tecord my protest at the very schoolboy efforte of his Reform Government to grapple with this very urgent question. I am sure very few of your readera really believe that Mr. Massey lias any intentions of starting a State bakery, or is likely to initiate airy other scheme that will help the wage-earners to feed their families. No, sir, the attitude ot the Government from the very start of the war was one of wait; and it must surely convince us workers that nothing is to be expected from Massey and Co. Having thus decided, 1 would SJiggest that the progressive element in New Zealand should right away make such a noise that even Mr. rMassey would J be compelled to meet Parliament at once. 1 would again suggest that public meetings at once be called in every town in Zealand, when the Government, and for that matter the veiy silent members of Parliament, whether Reform. Liberal, or Labour, be given a decided hint as to what is required of them.—l am, etc., FATHER OF SIX.
