NOT A SERIOUS MILITARY MOVEMENT, DESIGNED TO RELIEVE MONOTONY OF CAMP LIFE* (Received 10.25 ajn.) ■—--■ SYDNEY, this day. Mr. C. E. W. Bean, the Commonwealth official war correspondent, cables that the German officer commanding the Turkish camp at Beersheba a fortnight ago sent out an infantry battalion and a detachment of cavalry, and a few guns to march to the southern end of the Suez CanaL The expedition seems to have been undertaken more with a view to relieving the extreme monotony of military life at Beersheba than with any military object. It may be taken as certain that any real attack on the Canal for many ' jnonths is out of the question. General yon Traumer and three German officers accompanied the expedition, which was seen at El Kubri, north of Suez, on Monday. When the guns '. opened file the force retired and camped eight miles back in the desert. ' Early on Tuesday General Younghusband routed them, a few prisoners j hieing taken.
