The Destruction of the Waitemata's Charm.

The pubhc for the most part have little idea of what destructive inroads on the beauty of the harbour the scheme for a waterfront railway involves. The above photograph was taken last Monday morning from the extreme end of Point Resolution. In the foreground are the popular baths; then comes the sweep of Judge's Bay, with a port.on of the Gillies' residence in the park just discernible. Across the bay i 8 Campbell's Point. Under the scheme engineered by a few officials, without reference to the public, the point will disappear to within a chain and a-half of the residence. The position is approximately indicated by an arrow. The line will then cross the bay, which ,n the end will, no doubt, be filled in, and then, presumably - although this question does not seem to be definitely decided-pass just outside the haths. It does not take a very vivid imagination to comprehend the effect of this vandalistic scheme to transform these picturesque headlands and destroy the bay to penn.t of a six-track railway and a broad dusty road. Very clear evidence that there is no alternative should be provided before the work it permitted by the Public Works Department to proceed. Henry Winkelmann, photo.
