AUCKLAND AND UNEMPLOYED.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—! was pleased to notice that ■Industrial Tramp." the writer of the "Sta-r's" labour Notes, has given out worthy Mayor credit for solving the unemployed problem during a time of extraordinary stress. l>>t mc contrast the position here with Sydney and other Auetralian cities where there are unemployed in their tens of thousands worrying the Labour politicians who, so far, Ikiv« failed to lind a way out of the difficulty.—l am, etc., W. COURTAYNE. (To the Editor.) ?ir, —As a unionist and an out-of-work, not from ohtKce, but economic compulsion, kindly permit mc to enter my protest against a misstsitement on the part of "Industrial Tramp," the writer of TJutreduye Labour Not-js in the "Star." Let any of your readers wait near the "Star" office any evening, and they will see hundreds eagerly dcvmi'rinir -lie "Situa , t".oE« Vacant" t-ohnri ns. Then the unemployment books of the various unions also testify to the fart that there i* much distress in this city. I would remind "industrial Tramp" fiat there air imimlvrs turned away from, the Council yard every day, and the same applies to every other municipal, government and private channel of employment.— 1 am, etc., J. WILKINSON.
