W.OT.U. SUGGESTIONS. | (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday, j The following resolutions in connection I with prison reform were recommended to the attention of the Minister for Justice, the Hon. JL. L. Herdman, by the Women's Christian Temperance Union Convention: — (1) That this convention send a letter of thanks and appreciation to the Minister for Justice for his recent action in appointing a lady doctor to the central women's prison at Addington. (2) That this convention urges that further facilities be given for instruction to men and women prisoners in outdoor ■work, and suitable technical training which shall prepare them to earn honest livelihoods when free. (3) That this convention urge the Government to provide for a better system of classification, so that it may be impossible for first offenders to make the acquaintance of hardened criminals, •which _c a disadvantage in after life. (4) That this convention -respectfully recommend the delivery of helpful and instructive lectures, which would have a humanising and an uplifting influence on prisoners. (5) That this convention urge the Women's Christian Temperance Union in Christcbirrch to appoint a superintendent to co-operate with other prison reform workers in the city, (0) That women official visitors to | gaols he given the powers of justices of the peace.
