A DATS HUNTING AT THE FRONT. tan officer of tbe BjA.M.C. writes on January 16:— TSis afternoon we went off to the hunt. Half a dozen couples of beagles and a good field went off after bunny at a fine paces but, fortunately for bunny, there were plenty of wide ditches in this flat country, and she and all the rest got away scot free. I couldn't help laughing is I plunged through deep mnd with, our vet, captain, realising the strange mix-up of one's surroundings. The gnus on the right side of the road were booming away at the "Gerboye," and the vicious crash, crash, in reply allowed that we were not having the battle all to ourselves. On the other side of the road, in a field, was the hunt. Officers many and a number of orderlies cantering In the rear. All as jolly as sandboys. The "(Jerboyß" could easily, if they had known of it (but the day was too, windy for aero- ; planes), toave* plumped a few shells into us. 1 suppose there are f.ilk at home who would hold up horror-stricken hands at the ! whole thing, but it is just this same spirit w*leh is carrying us through the biggest test ever imposed on mortal man. To-morrow I bope to get to church parade. Monday we go back. The rest nag been very sood, and now we most face, the real thine- again. Four lovely big parcels arrived to-day for "Tommy" — "Humbugs," chocolate, acid drops, butter, dripping, oxo, mufflers, etc, etc. OSie lads will rend mc in twain, or would if they hadn't .to stand stiff and salute, and look as if their mouths were full already, whereas, poor beggars! they haven't smelt a peppermint for months.
