DEVONPORT AND A POLICE OFFICE. A meeting of the Waltemata Chamber of Commerce was held in' Messrs. Lane's rooms, Devonport, last evening. iMr. W. S. Stone (vice-president), occupied the chair, and there were also present Messrs. Rees George, J. Henderson, M. King, B. Lane, J. Lowe, Geo. Totman, and A. H. Gentll' (aecretary). ,: '".-■.' LOCAL.J.P.'S WANTED. The chairman announced that the council bad decided to. write to the Minister ot Justice pointing out the need of the appointment of business men of Devonport as J.P.s for the borough. It was stated that the present holders of the honour were, men mainly engaged away from the borough, and the council suggested that n Hat of the J.P.s of the district should be posted up in prominent places. (Mr. J. Henderson pointed out that an order regarding the posting ot .the names might form, a useful precedent for the Dominion. It frequently happened at present that people bad to go-running about alt over the place looking for a J.P. to attest documents. The action of tbe council was endorsed. A DEVONPORT COURT. Mr. Henderson thought that the suburb was too near to the city to warrant a separate police court.
