MARRIED AT SEVENTEEN.

I WIFE SEEKS SEPARATION. Leonard Oliver Grant appeared at the -Magistrate* Court this morning before Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M., to answer the .application of his wife for separation and .maintenance, on the ground of persistent cruelty. This case was heard I last week, but as the husband was not present, after hearing the wife's statement, the Magistrate adjourned the I matter to get the attendance of the husband. When the case was called this morning Mr. Hackett again ap-1 i peared for the complainant. Mr. Sfnger. who appeared for the de-1 fer.dant. said be pleaded not guilty J I His client's non-attendance last -week was due ?to ignorance of Court proce- j dure. I ' Air. Kettle said he thought there had been some misunderstanding. I | The wife repeated her former cvi- ' dence. and asked for an order of 30/ a week for the maintenance of her three I I children and herself. I In answer to Mr Singer, witness stated that up to twelve months ago they , were fairly happy. The trouble was her I husband's jealousy. She admitted her husband was fond of the children. She had said it would be nice to be free for twelve montliß. Mr. Kettle: Is that the way in which the young married women of Onehunga talk? j | Mrs. Grant: It was only said in fun to my husband, and be has replied that he would not mind it himself. Defendant was examined as to his income, and volunteered to pay £1 3/6 maintenance. He said his wife could have the furniture in the house. Mrs. Grant said she also could earn something as a dressmaker. Mr. Kettle made no order, and adjourned the case sine die. upon the tin- j df.rta.king of the husband to pay the 23/6 weekly.
