BELGIUM'S THANKS

FOR AUCKLAND'S GENEROSITY. LETTERS TO THE CONSUL. The gratitude of Belgium for the gilts which have been forwarded by the people of the Auckland Provincial district is expressed in letters which have been received by the Belgian Consul for Auckland (Mr. A. M. Ferguson), who is at present in London. Copies of these letters have been sent out to the Acting Consul (Mr. Robert Burns). Tlsey come from Monsieur M. J. Davignon, I Belgian Minister for Foreign Affairs; Moneieur E. 'Pollet, Belgian Consul-Gen-eral in London; and Monsieur J. Navoux (an official of the 'Belgian Relief Fund). The writers express their thanks in very appreciative terms, and acknowledge, with especial gratitude, the receipt of four bales of blankets which were donnated for the Belgian soldiers. In his hccompanying letter, Mr Ferguson points out that the letters of thanks were sent to him when he was only in a position to acquaint them with part of the results that had been achieved by the organisers of the Auckland Fund. ''When they know," he adds, "of the grand total of your work, they will be surprised as well ac gratified. I hope I understand well enough the spirit in which that work is being done, to know that none of yon are bothering for recognition, official or otherwise, but still I would like to be abie to transmit through you to the people of Auck'and some slight idea of how much their kindness is appreciated."
