f ißy WHALEBONE.) RACING FIX.TTJKKS. March 17 and IS—Ohlnemurl J. C. Annual. April 3 and T>—A.R..C. Autumn. April 7 and 10—Auckland T.C. Autumn. April 14 and IT—Avondale J.C. Autumn. June 8, 5, ana 7—A.R.C Winter. , ANSWERS TO OORBESPOSDEXTS. "INQriREK. '—Tbe starters were Postillion 1. Beldame 2. Tatterley 3. Crown Tearl. Gipsy Belle. King Lupin. Waiorewa, Tact. Selection, O'ertime and Deube Ormc. The total receipts at tbe recent Napier Part Meeting showed a decrease of £30.1:). Tbe recent rain freshened things up at Ellerslie, and tbe tracks are now in fine order. Reports from the south state that Messrs Riddiford Bros, have purchased tbe sprinter Tatterley from Mr E. J. Watt. Black Northern and Spalperion are the favourite selections for the A.B.C. Brighton Hurdles. The Brighton Hurdles candidate Takanlni was schooled over a couple of hurdles at Ellerslie yesterday morning, fencing in good style. Tbe Gienora Park ored Soultberg recently credited Dr. Bennett with another victory in South Australia, accounting for a Welter Handicap, and returning a good dividend. Three of the winners on the second day of tbe Napier Park Meeting. King's Guard. Sir Alba and Sicily all returned good di-1-dends. The weights for the minor events on the opening day of the A.R.C. Easter Meeting are due on Monday next, the 22nd. The ex-Auckland trainer T. A. Williams had a winning lurn at the recent Canterbury Park (N.S.W.) meeting, the gelding Sanguine in his charge accounting for the Flying Mile, starting at 3 to 1 on. 3. Rae's pair I.ady Sabretache and Capt. Pine were schooled over tbe big country at Ellerslie yesterday morning. Lady Sabretache rau off the first fence ot the double, but afterwards jumped all right, as did Capt. Pine. Some time between last Saturday and Snnday morn/ng the trotting horse Springbok was removed from a paddock at Epsom, and all efforts to trace bim have been unsuccessful. The matter has been placed in the hands of tbe police. It is not often that an Auckland horse is nominated for a southern meeting at Easter time, but the Wairiki gelding Phosphorus appears amongst tbe nominations for tbe big handicap events at tbe FeUding meeting, which takes place on Easter Monday aud Tuesday. By the Sydney boat that left Wellington on Friday, the "Highuen" lots which are to be submitted lo auction at the Easter sales were shipped across. They -were Sarcelle. . Ml Edeu, Formallter, Briseis and Gerberga. The Gluten gelding Decorate, which was some time before he struck form in Australia, has won several races recently. His latest success was in the Victoria Park Handicap, when carrying top.wcigbt (10.0), and starting at 0 to 2, be defeated a fairly good field. So far there is no pronounced favourite for the Easter Handicap, the shortest-priced ones being King Lupin and Downhain, and then come Chortle. Merry Roe. Jack Delaval. Bon Rcvc, Beldame, Red Book and Tete-a-tete, The A.R.C. Easter Handicap candidate Bon Reve. which has been off the sceue for a long time, made his reappearance at the recent Napier Park Meeting, when he contested the St. Patrick's Handicap of sis furlongs, running last in a field of four. The ex-New Zealand gelding Moonbria was backed down to 4 to 1 for the Canterbury Park Handicap in Sydney recently but finished out of a place. Moonbria was ridden by an apprentice, and, according to the ''Australasian,'' an inquiry was held after the race, when the stewards decided that a stronger boy would bare done better with the horse. Good. Night, which broke down on the ere ot the A.R.C. Summer Meeting of 191 :i----34. was sold at auction ou Friday last for Sdgs. being secured by Mr H. A. De Latour. Geod Night is a young horse, and even if te never races should be dirt cheap at the price. The Ohinemuri Jockey Club annual meeting has attracted a lot of the regulars from Ellerslie. and. in consequence, matters :t headquarters are at present a bit on the quiet side. Tbe Ohinemuri gathering 's the last of the country fixtures, aud next week should see things very busy at Ellerslie. in anticipation of the A.X.C. Autumn Meeting. The yearling full brother to Bon Ton by Boniform—Class was sent up along with other youngsters bred by Mr W. G. Stead at Napier on Friday. !>nt the announcement that there was a reserve of SOOgs ou the I colt prevented any bids being forthcoming. The stallion Feramorz was knocked down to Mr H. K. Troutbeck at 310gs. but the | other lots went very cheaply. The btatara yearlings bred by Mr G. P. Donnelly were . offered at the same time, but bidding was very slack, and the lot disposed of were practically given away. . Tor some time past the Hutt Valley Trotting Club hare been endeavouring to secure a lease of the Hutt Park, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Now, however. It is announced that the Hutt Park Committee have rescinded a resolution which prohibited the sale of liquor on tbe Park, and also granted tbe Trotting Club a lease of the ground for fifteen years at £100 per annum, for one or two days' racing. The SP'-uring of the ground means a lot for the Trotting Clnb. for In the past the track on which they raced was altogether too small, while tbe appointments were simply disgraceful, and unless some Improvement was effected they stood a good chance or losing their license. The new ground, although a little further out. should enable the ciub to considerably improve things, and the sport should now rapidly advance in tbe Wellington district.

The recent cyclone in Terth did damage to the extent of £3.000 to the stands ou tbe Mest Australian Turf Club's course. The Victoria Racing Club and the Victorian Amateur Turf Club have each subscribed £1,0(10 to the Belgian Relief Fund. Mr Ben Myers has nominated his hunter Hockey for the Hunt Cup to be run at the Feildlng meeting. A win for Mr Myerscolours would be very popular. The X.Z.-bred Woolna. by Royal Fusilier —Rose Maddo. a mare bred by Mr T. H. Lowry. won the principal event at a meeting In South Australia recently, paying the nice dividend of £19 7/. According to the "Australasian" of the Gth inst.. Sir Solo had been so seriously ill with bowel trouble that the veterinary surgeon (Mr E. O. Wood! had given him up. Sir Solo, however, pulled round, aud at latest news was improving. Dl Gama. ran a meritorious second In tbe Essendon Stakes. . and was fourth In the Australian Cup. He is a rare galloper, says a Sydney writer, but two miles at tbe solid pace at which the Sydney Cup is usually run may tell against him. In their respective adjustments for the A.R.C. Easter Handicap and C.J.C. Easter Handicap. Mr Morse and Mr Henrys appear a bit at variance in respect to some of the horses encaged. Mr Henrys had Warstep to start with, and he has gone a little higher than Mr Morse, but this is about right with a furlong less to travel. Both gentlemen are agreed on Ventura aud Pavlova. which they place on the one mark: but Mr Morse holds a higher opinion of Expect and Chortle than does Mr Henrys, who puts Empcrador on the same mark as the pair, while Mr Morse makes them concede him 211) and 41b respectively. Lower down the list there are discrepancies from 21b up. the most noticeable being Bimeter, Bertrada and Tete-a-tete. PAKT'KAXGA HINT CLI'B. The annual meeting of the members of the Pakuranga Hunt Club will be held in the Auckland Racine Club office, ou Friday, the 2Ctb lust., at 2.30 p.m. HAWERA STAKES, 1916. The following nominations have beeu received for the Hawera Stakes, of lOOsovs, weight for age. with penalties and allowances, one mile, to be run on tlie second day of ibe Egmont Racing Club's 1910 Summer Meeting:— I Wire Tokena's Foeman. ' F. Solwoods Play Off and br c by Husband man—Ranglpubi mare. W. C. Phillips' Fidclls. T. Junp's Paraoa. Walter Raleigh's Rewi Toto. A. Alexander's Blsogne and ratronale.. T. H. Talent, Emperador, aud Bimeter. Mr Highden's Legal Tender. R. Barlow's Degradation. J. Monk's Belasco. TURF TALK FROM THE SOUTH. (By Telegraph.—.Special to "Star.") CIIRISTCIirRCH. this day. The handicaps for the Great Easter and Great Autumn created some little interest, aud then considerable discussion. However, rhc early scratching of Warstep for the tirst uauied i <it an cud to many theories. The marc has a steadier in the longer distance, but she carried 21b more at Dunedin. One must bear In mind, however, that the opposition this time will be pretty hot. but the distance won't trouole her as it will some of her opponents. With the autumn meeting looming nigh, things are beginning to move, and already owners are running out to see their teamat work. That Is always a sign of something doing. Tbe work of getting tbiugs into order at the course goes on apace. The inside track has- been ploughed. It wili now be thoroughly worked up, then properly graded, and, all being well, should be available next week. The sixfurlong course was open yesterday, and trainers made the most of their opportunities. Some very interesting work was got through. Flying Start, Battle Eve. aud Adjutant jumped off together, aud in the early part there was" nothing between them. At the end of five furlongs Adjutant commenced to drop buck, and he finished aliout three lengths away. Flying Start beating Battle Eve by a neck in 1.10 3-3. At no stage was there much between the pair, hut Flying Start made the greatest impression on those present. Gowan Brae and Harlequin led San Sebastian for half-a-mile. when Harlequin lost his place. At this stage San Sebastian was being ridden bard, but he finished gamely nnd headed Gownu Brae a few strides from the post. Harlequin being several lengths away. The time for the journey was 1.13. San Sebastian created a favourable Impression by the style in which he finished. Harlequin's effort was disappointing, and it looks as if be cannot stay. Court-Martial heat Snapdragon by five lengths In 1.17}. with Bonny Maiden a similar distance further back. CourtMartlal stayed on better than the others. Merry Trick and Don Francisco raced together all the way. Merry Trick just having her head in front at the finish iv 1.19. Nigbtwateh nnd Autumnus were well matched from the start, and. after a good struggle. Nigbtwateh beat his companion by a ucek in 1.10 3-3. It was a useful gallop. First Glance, going comfortably, beat Tevisdale and Afton Locb over five furlongs on the course proper In 1.4. Free moved very freely, and easily defeated [ Petrosus over five furlongs on tbe plough in 1.4. The performance of Petrosus was disappointing. Sartorze has been on the easy list since the Dunedin meeting, but he is looking very fit. aud has not a few admirers for the Easter Handicap. Yesterday, by himself, be covered five furlongs ou the plough lv 1.4 and finished strongly. I Dayligbt Bill gave a rattling display of jumping, and should land further stakes for his owuer this winter. 1 learn that Wise Bird ls making very 1 slow progress towards recovery. The misbaps which attended her trip North have given much trouble, aud her mentors say that it will be a long time before she is seen out under silk. Winterbonrne. the Martiau—Neva yearling colt purchased by Sir George Clifford in tbe spring, is being broken in at Chokebore Lodge. Being n brother to the well performed Danube, the colt's career will be watebed with some interest. For the cominz meeting matters are progressing rapidly. Great efforts are being made to have the new stewards' stand finished in- time for the Easter meeting. Southern owners Intend to send up a contingent. I understand, and Christchurch trainers will take teams down to Inver.-argill next week. It i« said that the Auckland-owned pacer Prince Akwood in A. Hendriekson's sta'des is coins on satisfactorily in Ms training. The horse will be raced at the Easter meeting at Addlneton. nnd. all golnx well with him. he will bo a starter in the New Brighton Derby. TAILORS.
