Copies of the petition, asking the Government to immediately stop work on the waterfront route, in order that alternative proposals may be considered, are being largely signed, and some hundreds of signatures have been subscribed. To-morrow copies of the petition will be displayed in Victoria Arcade for signature. In tbe opinion of tbe London "Tunes" military correspondent even the enemy must admit that there is ho useful purpose in prolonging the war, as Germaary's position must get worse instead of better the longer the--war lasts.
