'•- The folio wing- telegram -was addressed last week towthe Prime Minister by Mr. j. 5.-Dickson, Af.p for Pa-rnell, relative .tot the labourers employed on the new Parnell- tunnel:—"Thirty men paid off on_&turdayj-March 6th, and 150 will be put off on -Saturday, "March 20th. Parnell tunnel will then be finished. Can you find work for them on any public works for *he winter? Also great number of carpenters out of work here. "When will you be able tqjstart to build new railway workshops at Newmarket, so "that these men m<iy be employed for the winter. Trusting you will give this your urgent attention.—J. S. Dickson."
This morning Mr. Dickson received the following reply.—"Re telegram of 12th inst., I have conferred with Minister of Public Works, and as soon as Engineer-in-Ohief returns to Wellington he will see what can be done regarding unemployment referred to. It may 'be very difficult to find work for carpenters.—W. F. 3dassey."
